Microsoft launches voice control for its Xbox 360 console

The technology group launched Tuesday a U.S. Microsoft updated its Xbox 360 that allows the user to fully control the console using only his voice and to dispense with the traditional controller. This new feature, available free by connecting the machine to the Internet, however, is reserved only for owners of Kinect, the accessory equipped with cameras and microphones launched in late 2010 by Microsoft in order to play in moving the body.
Speech recognition is triggered by pronouncing the word Xbox. Therefore, everything that is on the screen can be read. The reaction time between the pronunciation of a command and its realization, is virtually nonexistent. No programming is also required in advance to be able to talk to the machine.
"With the voice is a new stage of democratization that we are taking. The handle is no longer a barrier to use the console since it is sufficient to talk to him to obey it," he told AFP Rohan Oommen, head of the department dedicated to Xbox Live online features of Xbox 360 for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, during a presentation in Paris.
More broadly, this update is an opportunity for the American group, which sold 57 million Xbox 360 and 10 million Kinect cameras in the world, to review the interface of the machine, now similar to that of its system Operating Windows Phone for smartphones.
Above all, it was also associated with several partners, such qu'Allociné (movie times) and Dailymotion (video playback), so that dedicated applications are emerging for the machine, like what is done currently the world of telephony, and are controllable by voice.
This new way to play in speaking has appeared before this update on some games, but Microsoft hopes to see develop in the future.
"This must be justified. Add voice just to add the voice, it would not be useful", but warned Mr. Oommen.
